Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Monday formally launched the CM Punjab Free Solar Panel Scheme, providing free solar systems to households consuming up to 200 units of electricity per month. The initiative aims to ease the financial burden of high electricity costs and promote clean energy across the province.
The scheme was officially launched through digital balloting, ensuring a transparent selection process. Speaking at the event, CM Maryam directed authorities to fast-track the installation process, emphasizing that no delays should occur in providing relief to eligible consumers.
Installation Timeline & Eligibility
Following physical verification, solar panel installations are set to begin by late March, with the first phase expected to be completed by July 2025. In this phase, 94,483 solar panel systems will be installed, benefiting thousands of households.
The scheme received 861,000 applications, with selected households to receive either a 0.55 kW or 1.1 kW system based on their electricity consumption. Consumers will be verified using their electricity bill reference number and CNIC to ensure fair distribution.
Key Features of the Scheme
Digital & Transparent Process: All procedures, from application to installation, are digitized.
Environmental Impact: The installation of 100,000 solar systems in Punjab is expected to reduce carbon emissions by 57,000 tonnes.
Helpline Support: A dedicated helpline has been set up to assist beneficiaries.
CM Maryam also highlighted that the initiative would reduce the federal government’s subsidy burden while encouraging a shift toward renewable energy solutions in Punjab.
