Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Sardar Usman Buzdar has announced the launch of 200 new development projects across the province, news sources reported on August 24. In this respect, the chief minister has instructed Secretary of Housing Dr Zafar Nasrallah to call a meeting within three days.

The proposed projects include the building of overhead bridges, underpasses, signal-free corridors in Lahore, and the adoption of Lahore Development Authority’s rules in all housing control authorities around the province in order to combat mushrooming of unlawful housing schemes. The government has planned to develop land-use regulations comparable to the LDA and to apply these regulations in other housing control bodies.

In addition, the projects involve the building of underground water storage tanks to harvest rainwater in various parts of the province. Director General LDA Ahmad Aziz Trar will update the Directors General (DGs) of Development Authorities and Water and Sanitation Agencies (WASAs) from Faisalabad, Multan, Gujranwala, and Rawalpindi at the forthcoming meeting held under Secretary Housing. According to sources, CM Buzdar wants all of the province’s major towns to be built in the same manner as Lahore.
