Lahore: The Punjab Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) has asked the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) to surrender the land acquisition records of a major housing scheme in Lahore, the news sources reported on March 7.

The anti-corruption watchdog has asked the authority to provide records of land transfers and purchases in Allama Iqbal Town, Gulberg, Johar Town, Sabzazar, Garden Town, Upper Mall, Tajpura, and Gujjarpura that were acquired between 2018 and 2023. The authority will investigate exemption records, land acquisitions and transfers, allotments of plots to the public at large, compensation, allotment through the exchange of plots, development, mortgaged plots, original maps, and other related issues. Similarly, ACE will also investigate the matter of duplicated residential plot files in Johar Town and other areas.

It is important to note that the LDA is the sole regulatory authority for all residential land in Lahore and has banned and warned multiple unauthorised residential and commercial projects against selling plots. But However, in recent years, the number of unauthorized and illegal housing projects has increased. The Punjab government has already mandated that the LDA implement the Lahore Master Plan 2050 to regularise the land use in the city.
