Lahore: The Punjab government has decided to transform Lahore into Pakistan’s first smart city in the next three years, news sources reported. The initial phase of the Lahore Smart City project is expected to be completed by 2024.

To this effect, the planning commission and a time frame have been prepared. The project will be executed by the joint efforts of the local government department and Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB). According to the details, Lahore will be developed as a smart city in line with internationally established practices and standards. Citizens will be able to use their mobile devices to access all civic and government services.

Some of the facilities include online parking and online booking of government-employed medical professionals. The smart applications will also be used to govern the city’s entry and exit. Fees for travelling to Lahore’s Central Areas will be imposed and regulated under Smart City, as will hours for admission into Central City.
