Lahore: The Punjab Revenue Department is looking to introduce a biometric system ‘for the sale and purchase of property from their home’ to bring further transparency and convenience to the entire process, according to a news report published on August 30.

Through the new mechanism, citizens will not need to visit the registrar’s office and will be able to transfer property from their home settings. The system would also entertain other forms of transfers including individual inheritance.
According to details, the mechanism will be introduced through a public-private partnership mode. To this effect, the government will issue licenses to individuals and companies with ‘good reputations’ – the same way they are issued to stamp sellers with a heavy financial security. Additionally, the National Database Registration Authority (NADRA) and the property registrars will be directly linked for transparency purposes.

The companies will provide services in all union councils as well as those markets that allow easy property registration and declarations.
Moreover, the system will initially be introduced in the major cities of the province during the first phase. In the second phase, it will be expanded to all divisions and districts and then to tehsils in the third phase. It is expected that the system will be available throughout the province within a year.
