Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has initiated a comprehensive anti-encroachment drive across 18 key markets in Lahore, as reported on October 9.

As per details, CM Punjab issued strict directives for the immediate cleaning and upgrading of streets, roads, and bazaars throughout the city, giving the concerned authorities a three-day deadline to complete the task.
Maryam Nawaz Sharif further instructed the adoption of a zero-tolerance policy against potholes and stressed the need for the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) maintenance unit to function properly. In line with the city’s development, she also launched an anti-encroachment drive, targeting 18 major markets in Lahore, with the goal of clearing illegal structures and reclaiming public spaces.
She called for the immediate removal of unauthorised parking areas and the clearing of footpaths to ensure safe and accessible spaces for pedestrians. The CM stressed the importance of consulting with the business community before taking action against illegal encroachments and directed that a system be established for designated spots for vendors and motorcyclists, including dedicated parking areas for motorcycles in all city markets.

During the meeting, it was also decided that 2,595 cattle currently present at 213 locations across Lahore would be relocated outside the city. Additionally, authorities reported that around 1,800 illegal tents had been set up at various points in the city, which will also be addressed as part of the campaign.
On the occasion of ‘National Disaster Awareness Day,’ the CM delivered a message urging better planning and awareness to mitigate the impact of natural disasters. She highlighted the importance of prevention and individual responsibility in reducing the effects of natural calamities. “Every individual must play a role in minimszing the damage caused by disasters,” she said.
