Lahore: Punjab Minister of Labour and Human Resources Ansar Majeed Khan Niazi announced on Wednesday (September 9) that the government intends to provide labourers with their own houses this year – under a new labour housing policy, according to news sources.

Minister Niazi stated that the old policy of rental dwellings will be changed to accommodate labourers in their houses on an ownership basis. He made the remarks during a meeting with a delegation led by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister’s Special Assistant on Industries and Commerce Abdul Karim Khan at the Punjab Social Security Institution Head Office.
He also claimed that the government will soon issue labourers with registration cards, making them eligible for government benefits. In this regard, s many as 1 million bank accounts for workers will be established across the province. Minister Ansar said this programme would provide labourers with a PKR 15,000 monthly shopping subsidy.

He also noted the provincial government’s digitization project, in which social security hospitals are being digitised in order to better serve the people. He also stated that the government has launched an online mechanism for industries to contribute to social security benefits, with 98.7 % contributed in the previous month by industrial bodies.
