Lahore: Punjab Local Government & Community Development (LG&CD) Department has decided to start an urban regeneration project for the walled city of Lahore, news sources reported on August 26. The PKR 4 billion project will help restore old structures and monuments of the walled city.

Reportedly, Municipal Secretary Syed Mubasher Hussain said that the areas around the Shahi Qila, Badshahi Masjid, and other neighbouring sites will be rebuilt in the project’s first phase. Once completed, the project is planned to boost tourism and recreational activities in the city. Moreover, it was announced that the government would seek external aid to restore buildings.

It is worth noting that the French government has recently agreed to fund the repair and renovation of the walled city. The French government will provide funds, technical experience, and consultancy services as part of the endeavour to restore Lahore’s historical mystique.
