Rawalpindi: The Punjab government has temporarily suspended the funding for ongoing development schemes and new projects in all districts including Rawalpindi on directives of the Election Commission of Pakistan, a news source reported on February 1.

The news source mentioned that funds will be released for only three long-delayed mega projects in Rawalpindi. It was disclosed that the Planning and Development Department has requested recommendations from the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) for the release of funds for the project including; the Defence Chowk Underpass, redesigning and expansion of the Kutchery Chowk, and Rawalpindi Ring Road (RRR) project.

Moreover, the RRR project, which has been awarded to the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) at the cost of PKR 22.8 billion, will need to go through third-party validation before work can be continued. The RDA will send its recommendations for the release of funds for the said three projects.
