Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Sardar Usman Buzdar on Tuesday approved the operationalisation of the Orange Line Metro Train (OLMT) services starting October 25, according to news sources.

Buzdar also issued directions for all the relevant departments to complete their preparations for the operationalisation of OLMT. The provincial government has fixed the OLMT fare rate at PKR 40 – rejecting the earlier proposal of PKR 50. Previously, China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Authority Chairman Lt Gen (r) Asim Saleem Bajwa had announced over 250 vacancies for the OLMT project.

Meanwhile, the long-awaited OLMT project – a rapid transit system – is still under construction and spans over 27.1 kilometres (km). The project infrastructure is elevated by 25.4 km and goes 1.72km underground. People can avail the project’s services via 26 stations – which is expected to facilitate about 250,000 passengers daily.
