Rawalpindi: The Punjab Government is going to procure 427 kanals of land to shift the wholesale market away from Raja Bazaar, according to a news report. The location of this land is in Mauza Kaliam, well away from the urban centre. This move is expected to alleviate traffic problems and other issues faced by traders and the general public.
The government is taking this step in response to the longstanding demand of the traders. The Assistant Commissioner Naeem Afzal and the market committee have chosen two sites in Kiliam for this purpose. The next step involves local revenue officials demarcating the land.
Once the market committee purchases the land after their report, the process of moving the market will begin. The new location chosen is near the starting point of the ring road in Channi Sher Alam. This will allow traders to send their goods north without entering city limits. This is also expected to reduce the encroachment and traffic issues currently faced in the wholesale market.
