Lahore: The Punjab government has decided to limit the control area of the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) from the current division level to city level, a news source reported. With this development, the LDA’s role will also be narrowed down to conducting master planning for Lahore and developing housing schemes within the city.

The new arrangement further requires placing the LDA under the supervision of the Lahore Mayor. All these changes are part of the implementation of the new Local Government Act. In order to implement the changes that the new local government system demands, the LDA Act will also be amended.

News sources further claim that a few different proposals are being considered to limit the jurisdiction of the LDA. As per one of these proposals, the LDA’s operations will be directly monitored by the Lahore Mayor, and the development authority will only be engaged for construction of housing schemes and to issue building plan approvals for real estate projects in the city. This also means that the LDA will not be able to collect various types of charges, like commercialsation and map approval fees.
