Lahore: The Punjab Senior Minister Aleem Khan has announced that the Punjab government plans to establish model cattle markets in six major cities of the province, a news source reported. He was chairing a meeting with Cattle Market and Management Company officials.
The model cattle markets will be set up in six cities of Punjab in the first phase. He directed the officials concerned to prepare a comprehensive plan for the markets, and to follow the pattern set in developed countries.
He suggested that a public-private partnership model be used for the purpose; complemented with modern-day facilities.
The minister stressed the need to increase the production capacity of the livestock sector. He said that animal rearing should be done on a scientific basis.
He also underlined the dire need of proper counselling for farmers, and the development of meat processing and marketing facilities.
