Rawalpindi: The Punjab government has issued red notices to 10,000 kiln owners; further ordering them to install the zigzag technology in these brick production units by September 30, a news source reported. To this effect, the provincial executive has divided the districts into three categories: red zone, yellow zone, and green zone.

The red zone includes the districts of Lahore, Kasur, Sheikhupura, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Multan, and Nankana. These districts have the most number of kilns and produce toxic smoke and smog which cause nose, ear, and throat problems, cancer, Tuberculosis, and other terminal diseases. The kiln owners in these districts have been given the deadline of 120 days until June and directed to implement the new zigzag technology.

On the other hand, the yellow zone districts’ kiln owners have been ordered to implement the zigzag technology until August 31. The green zone districts include Rawalpindi, Chakwal, Attock, Gujrat, and Jehlum. The green zone kiln owners are asked to implement the said zigzag technology until September 30.

The environment protection ministry has also informed the kiln owners that the said dates had been set up with the consultation of kiln association. No extra time will be given to any kiln and all the owners are required to install the zigzag technology.
