Lahore: The Punjab government plans to set up 13 Special Economic Zones (SEZs) in the province, a news source reported on August 30. Chief Minister (CM) Usman Buzdar revealed the information during a meeting with Ambassador of United Arab Emirates (UAE) to Pakistan Hamad Obaid Ibrahim Salem Al-Zabi.

During the meeting, the Punjab CM revealed that it was the first time in the history of the country that a provincial government was going to set up 13 SEZs. He added that the Punjab government would also ensure the provision of special facilities with regard to investment in these SEZs. He highlighted that similar facilities would be available for the Ravi River Urban Development Project.
The UAE envoy and Buzdar deliberated upon matters of mutual interest, along with promotion of bilateral relations and cooperation in different fields. Both officials discussed sectors including housing, trade, industry, and business to boost cooperation between the two countries.

Al Zabi extended his appreciation to the Punjab government for its effective strategy in dealing with the coronavirus pandemic. He added that the UAE wanted to enhance cooperation with the provincial government within different sectors.
