Lahore: The Zakat and Ushr Department has released Zakat funds worth over PKR 1.45 billion; further stating that it will distribute the amount among deserving citizens who have been affected by the ongoing coronavirus lockdown, a news source reported.

Punjab Minister for Zakat and Ushr Shoukat Ali Laleka expressed his views on the matter during a meeting held on Thursday. He said that the funds were distributed via ‘Telenor Easy Paisa’ to 160,000 individuals.
He further stated that out of the total amount, PKR 700 million were provided by the provincial government, while the remaining were sanctioned by the Zakat and Ushr Council.

Minister Shoukat said that PKR 9,000 were offered to individuals, while PKR 12,000 were offered to differently-abled individuals to help them survive these tough times. He said that the low-income households will be able to receive the entire amount form Easy Paisa outlets without any service charges deductions, as Zakat department has paid the service charges from the provincial account.
