Lahore: The Punjab Government is going to prioritise the uplift of rural areas, a news source reported. The Punjab Minister of Law, Parliamentary Affairs & Local Government, and Community Development (LG&CD) Raja Basharat has states that the provincial government is going equally focus on uplift of urban and rural areas.

Basharat chaired a meeting held at Civil Secretariat, during which he assured that more funds will be allocated to areas that have been ignored in the past. He added that new policies are needed to make the local bodies financially self-sufficient through improvement of source revenues.
The meeting participants informed the minister that a pilot project will be started next month to make Sialkot and Sahiwal sustainable cities. They told that the World Bank (WB) is backing this pilot project under the Punjab Intermediate Cities Improvement and Investment Project (PICIIP).

The next phase of PICIIP is expected to being in Sargodha, Muzaffar Garh, Rahim Yar Khan, DG Khan, and Bahawalpur. The minister was also told that another project is being launched in 16 cities of Punjab to revive and repair the existing development infrastructure.
