Lahore: The Punjab government on Wednesday announced its decision to make wearing face masks compulsory in all public places, a news source reported. The decision came during a meeting of the Punjab cabinet’s Coronavirus Control Committee.

Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Sardar Usman Buzdar chaired the meeting. Previously, he had approved the reopening of shopping malls across the province. However, according to the decision, the shopping malls would only remain open from 9 am to 5 pm — with food courts and play areas to remain closed.
The meeting further approved the reopening of restaurants in Punjab after the Eid holidays. The provincial government is expected to announce the SOPs and operational timings for this purpose later.

Reportedly, CM Buzdar has also announced a special allowance for Punjab police offers who are performing duties at the frontlines during the ongoing pandemic. According to the details available, police officers martyred after contracting the virus are to receive the Shaheed Package by the Punjab government.
