Lahore: The Punjab government has made it mandatory for high rise buildings in Lahore and other major urban centres of the province to install fire hydrants — a news source reported on October 28. Along with layout approvals, the building owners will now also have to obtain certificates confirming the installation of fire hydrants in their respective developments.

The decision was taken during the sixth meeting of the Punjab Emergency Council. On the occasion, it was further decided that the government would take strict action against the buildings that failed to install fire hydrants. These hydrants are expected to make firefighting easier for rescue workers in case of a situation similar to the recent Hafeez Centre incident.
