Lahore: The Punjab government has decided to form a new autonomous authority in order to promote and develop the tourism sector, a news source reported. For this purpose, it has directed the Tourism Department to prepare a draft bill, titled ‘Punjab Tourism Development’.

The provincial government plans to merge the Tourism Development Corporation of Punjab (TDCP) with the new proposed authority. Pertaining to this matter, Tourism Secretary Nadeem Mehboob stated that they will not lay off any TDCP employee or officer. He added that the post of Managing Director (MD) will be converted into Director General (DG).

Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Sardar Usman Buzdar has highlighted the importance of utilising historical buildings for tourism purposes. He added that the provincial government would develop new tourist spots as per its recently announced comprehensive tourism policy.
