Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Sardar Usman Buzdar on Tuesday made notification of the government’s current focus on the construction of small dams; which are expected to protect thousands of acres of land from the threat of barrenness – a news source reported.

The CM was chairing a meeting on the construction of small reservoirs which was briefed by the Irrigation Secretary.
The CM also announced the construction of seven small dams in Dera Ghazi Khan and six in Rajanpur for the purpose of water collection in the hill torrent areas. He said that construction of dams and water reservoirs would serve the dual functions of meeting the requirements of potable water and helping raise underground water levels.

During the session, the CM was further informed about the construction of protective spurs and ponds in a number of cities in the province; estimated to fare around PKR 600 million in development costs. The costs expected for the other projects were also discussed; including PKR 6 billion for Dhodcha Dam and PKR 1.56 billion for Chahan Dam.
