Lahore: The Punjab government has extended its Qeemat App service to Rawalpindi, Multan, and several other cities in the province, a news source reported. This facility is designed for free of cost delivery of essential food items to the residents of Lahore, Rawalpindi, Multan, Sahiwal, Gujranwala, Chiniot, Sialkot, and Faisalabad.

The initial purpose of the Punjab Qeemat App was to help people keep track of the official rate list for essential food items in the province. By the end of 2019, the app had started to offer free home deliveries too.

While citizens in Punjab continue to benefit from the Qeemat app service amid the lockdown imposed in the wake of COVID-19, the provincial government is taking strict action against small traders violating the government-approved rates for essential items. It has also taken an initiative against large cartels that are responsible for causing artificial inflation due to hoarding of wheat and sugar.
