Gujranwala: The Punjab government has launched the first overseas home for non-resident Pakistanis (NRPs) of Gujranwala Division, news sources reported. The overseas home will address legal concerns related to land, education, and mutation certifications for NRPs.

The new framework will address issues for more than 2.5 million NRPs belonging to Gujranwala Division. In this regard, for the first time, the government has issued Terms of Reference (TOR) to resolve land disputes. In the new TORs:
- Land clearance certificates will be issued in one week
- Land grabbing issues will be resolved in one month
- Land revenue record correction certificates will be issued in 15 days
- Land ‘Fard’ will be issued in 24-hour
- Matters related to land identification will be resolved in 15-day
- Inheritance cases and revenue court matters will be resolved in a 60-day time
On the occasion, Gujranwala Commissioner Ihsan Bhutta remarked that for the first time in Pakistan, NRPs may participate in development initiatives in their area by paying 30% of the development cost. The remaining 70% will be paid for by the government.

Moreover, the government has approved a 5% quota for NRP children to attend Divisional Public Schools (DPS). Likewise, the government is taking steps to deliver remittances to NRP family members via Pakistan Post. It is important to mention that NRPs from the Gujranwala division send USD 12 billion in remittances, accounting for 40% of overall remittances. In addition, the division also contributes 20% of the country’s exports.
