The provincial government has decided to declare Pirmahal tehsil in Toba Tek Singh as a new district. This tehsil is the hometown of Sarwar. Sources tell that apart from the governor’s recommendation, there is an additional qualification for the tehsil’s upgrade. They said that a large number of expatriates belonging to this area is also a reason for the change of status.
The second area to be assigned district status is Chishtian Bahawalnagar. Authorities concerned are also actively considering declaring Bhakkar as a new division. After a formal approval, the Bhakkar division will include Bhakkar, Layyah, and Mianwali districts.
In other expected status changes, Taunsa is under active consideration for becoming a district. It is the hometown of Chief Minister (CM) Usman Buzdar. Dajil, a small town in Jampur, is also up for tehsil status.
