Lahore: The Punjab government on Monday notified citizens of the province-wide closure of non-essential services and markets starting today (Tuesday) for two weeks for coronavirus prevention, according to news source.

Reportedly, during the next two weeks, all kinds of mass transport, shopping malls, public areas and tourist spots shall remain closed for the purpose of coronavirus prevention. In addition, Chief Minister (CM) Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar has announced that in the interest of the pubic during COVID-19 pandemic, pillion riding has also been temporarily banned.

Furthermore, he stated that the factories that were involved in the manufacturing of food items and essentials (including medicine, medical equipment) are exempted from this closure. Also, bakeries, meat shops, fruit market, pharmacies, groceries and other outlets providing essentials shall remain operational. Departments providing basic amenities like Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA), Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO), telecom services and welfare organizations are also permitted to continue to operate during this time.
CM Buzdar said that these measures had been taken neither as a lockdown or a curfew, but to help stop the coronavirus disease spread. He further expressed gratitude for the public for abiding by the government’s recent appeals to stay indoors. He also took the opportunity to assure the people that no food shortages were expected for the foreseeable future and that there was no need to hoard any food supplies.
