Lahore: The Punjab Government has recently initiated a project to promote mechanisation in rice farming, starting with providing super seeders and rice straw shredders to 700 farmers at a 60% subsidy, as claimed by a source on April 17.

Pursuant to the details, this is the first phase of a larger plan to distribute 5,000 such machines at subsidised rates. Agriculture Minister Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani emphasised the importance of ensuring quality in manufacturing these machines. Additionally, more than 23,200 modern agricultural tools and machinery, costing PKR 10 billion, will be provided to farmers on subsidy to promote mechanised agriculture.

The process involves receiving applications and conducting transparent balloting for distribution. These machines aim to improve land fertility and expedite the wheat sowing process after paddy cultivation. The Punjab Agriculture Department is overseeing the initiative to transform agriculture in the region, ensuring that nominated farmers receive modern machinery by June after thorough inspection by NESPAK.
