Gujrat: The Punjab government has decided to fund the 29-kilometre-long road connecting Gujrat city with Kharian-Sambrial Motorway, at an estimated cost ranging between PKR 8 billion to PKR 10 billion, according to news published in the leading newspaper on September 14.

As per the details, the Punjab government has approved the said project. It was highlighted that the acquisition of land and construction of a dual carriageway has been planned. A senior official (whose name was not disclosed) mentioned that the fencing of the expressway will turn it into a mini-motorway as the design is similar to the Faisalabad section, which was linked with the Lahore-Islamabad motorway.
Moreover, it was disclosed that the foundation stone of the project will be laid by the end of September and work is already being carried out by the relevant departments. According to the details, the expressway will start from GT Road. The news sources mentioned that Gurali Village could be the starting point of the project, which will connect the road with the Motorway from Lakhanwal.

It is pertinent to note that the National Highway Authority (NHA) has already launched the construction work for Kharian-Sambrial Motorway. It is an extension of the Lahore-Sialkot Motorway (M-11). The news sources reported that the Kharian-Islamabad portion of the motorway has also been approved, but it is not launched yet.
