Lahore: Punjab Minister for Industry and Commerce Mian Aslam Iqbal on Thursday (March 3) announced the launch of four new Special Economic Zones (SEZ) in the province, news sources reported. The SEZs in pipeline includes Zaamin SEZ (a private entity), Masan Daud Khel, Bahawalpur Industrial Estate and Roshan Sun Tao Paper Mills SEZ (Lahore-Islamabad Motorway).

Reportedly, in a meeting of the Tanneries Association in Kasur, Minister Iqbal said that the government has also set aside land in Lahore to establish the city’s first Special Technical Zone (STZ), which would promote the services industry. While discussing the new development projects and SEZs, the minister stated that the government has allotted lands to industrialists to encourage industrialisation in the province, and enhance export-based services and commodities. He also shared the details of the land sold and the production units in the ten already established SEZs under the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). He stated that:

- 327 acres of land have been allocated for the Rahim Yar Khan SEZ, with 220.5 acres sold and 106.5 acres left. Four units here have started production, while five are under construction.
- Vehari Industrial Estate has 175 acres of land, of which 81.81 acres have been sold with three operational units.
- Rachna Industrial Park has a total of 159 acres of land, of which 77 acres have been sold.
- A total of 3,049 acres of land have been designated for the M-3 industrial city, with 2,894 acres sold and 83 units in operation and 89 under development.
- A total of 74 acres of land has been designated for SEZ Oil Village, of which 30 acres have been sold. Three units are now under construction on different plots.
- A total of 150 acres of land has been set aside for the Value Addition City (VAC) SEZ, with 147.8 acres already sold. A total of 44 units have begun production, with another nine under development.
- A total of 1,075 acres of land have been granted for the QAABP SEZ, with 87 acres sold and one unit under development so far.
- JW China SEZ has been allocated 162-acre land, of which 89-acre has already been sold. Three units have begun production, and one is under development.
- A total of 1,960 acres have been designated for the Allama Iqbal Industrial City (AIIC), with 675 acres sold. Presently, 16 units are being built here.
