Lahore: The Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department of Punjab has given a green signal for launching a mega crackdown against ‘habitual’ property defaulters – specifically regarding the tax applicable on commercial and residential properties, a news source reported. In this regard, the department has also instructed the directors of Lahore Region B to prepare a list of the defaulters.

Sources claim that the Excise officers have received the directives to launch indiscriminate investigations against property tax defaulters who haven’t been clearing their taxes from the last several years. Furthermore, a formation of list of the people who haven’t cleared their dues following their first instalment deposits has been ordered.

Reportedly, the Excise officials have been directed to list down the names of plaza owners found defaulting on property tax. The officials will also be issuing tax notices to the owners of newly constructed property units. At the same time, operations will also be conducted against property owners who have rented out their properties but declared them as their own residences for to evade taxes.
