Lahore: The Punjab Wildlife Department has submitted a new draft law for the protection of wildlife to the government, according to a news report.

It has recommended stricter punishments and fines against illegal hunting. This is being done to counter the ever-growing problem of urbanisation and overpopulation.
The department has also proposed a marked increase in auction rates of surplus animals.

Another proposal they presented was increasing the imprisonment penalty for illegal hunting from two to five years and increasing the fine to a minimum penalty of PKR 50,000 and a maximum penalty of PKR 100,000. Reserve prices of wild birds were also to be increased by 100 to 300 percent.
