Lahore: Punjab Finance Minister Hashim Jawan Bakht on Tuesday (October 26) announced the release of PKR 47 billion for the District Development Programme (DDP) across the province, news sources reported. The said amount will be spent on 3,605 development projects on an equitable basis in all districts of the province.

As per the details, the funds were announced for the district development programme at the start of the fiscal year 2021-22 and were aimed at addressing the grievances of the districts regarding unequal development funds spending. Of the total number of projects, Lahore will get funds for 234 development projects. Moreover, these funds will be spent in 10 districts of the province, of which seven districts belong to South Punjab where the socio-economic indicators are not up to the mark.

Remarking on the selection and the criteria for the allocation of funds, Punjab Finance Secretary Iftikhar Ali Sahoo said that a comprehensive study was conducted before releasing the finds and the focus was on inclusive development.
