Lahore: The Punjab Mass transit Authority (PMA) has asked the provincial government to introduce distance-based fares for people travelling by the Lahore Orange Line Metro Train to bridge the increase in operational and administrative expenses, according to news published on August 8.

As per the details, the authority has discussed this issue before with the previous government. The authority explained that the fares of the Orange Train must be rationalised and the flat fare system must be discontinued. According to the authority, the distance-based fare from PKR 20 to PKR 40 (gradually increasing the prices with distance) on the 27-kilometre long route of the Orange Train. However, no action could be taken due to the change in government.

Moreover, the authority has prepared a summary to stop the flat fare system and introduce a distanced-based fare system. The summary has been sent to the transport department, which will be forwarded to the provincial cabinet.
