Lahore: Punjab Information Minister Fayyazul Hassan Chohan on Saturday said that the provincial government was deliberating extending the ongoing lockdown situation for another week to contain the coronavirus spread, a news source reported.

As per the publication, the minister said that strict measures would be imposed in the coming days; adding that the provincial executive has directed the authorities concerned to ensure the implementation of Section 144 in letter and spirit.

Meanwhile, at least 13 localities of Lahore including the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) and Bahria Town have been partially/completely sealed since Saturday.

Previously, the National Coordination Committee (NCC) had decided to extend the country-wide lockdown till April 14. However, the transportation of food items and operations of medicine stores were exempted from lockdown obligations.

Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan last week said that ease in the lockdown after April 14 would be decided in consultation with the provincial governments. The Sindh government has already urged the federal government to extend the lockdown and implement stricter measures as the COVID-19 cases keep witnessing an increase.
