Rawalpindi: The government of Punjab has completed the geo-mapping of brick kilns around the province in order to ensure their converted to the environmentally friendly zigzag technology – a news source reported on December 14.

In total, 6,940 brick kilns have been geo-mapped in Punjab, while Rawalpindi district has a total of 215 kilns. The identified brick kilns have also been issued red notices for conversion to the zigzag technology by December 31.
Before geo-mapping, the number of brick kilns in the district had been estimated at about 200, however, now 215 brick kilns have been identified.

The authorities are determined to not allow any brick kilns to remain operational after December 31 if they do not convert the zigzag technology by the deadline. A crackdown will also be launched against the establishments that do not comply by January 4.
