Lahore: Punjab Local Government & Community Development (LG&CD) Department Secretary Dr Naeem Rauf has asked the relevant departments to complete the master plan of metropolitan corporations by December 2022, news sources reported on April 09. The programme management unit will complete the master plans’ preparation for various cities in Punjab.

Reportedly, the master plans will focus on the development of sustainable infrastructure, the economy, environmental, and cultural components of the provincial cities. Additionally, details about zoning, transportation engineering, and solid waste management will be finalised. It was highlighted that the Punjab Municipal Development Fund Company (PMDFC) is working on the sectoral plan for 16 cities. On the other hand, the programme management unit will concentrate on the creation of a master plan for the province’s 119 cities.

The master plans will be finalised in stages. In another development, LDA Vice Chairman Naeem ul Haq has asked relevant authorities to redesign the Lahore master plan 2050. The decision was made based on the recommendations of two members of the master plan review committee. They said members are concerned about urban growth and the expansion of brown regions rather than the preservation of green spaces.
