Lahore: The Punjab government has constituted a commission for the regularisation of illegal housing schemes that were created without approval from the competent authority in the province, news sources reported.
The commission will be authorised under the approved bill to legalise or penalise illegal housing societies in various regions of the province. According to the information released, the Punjab government authorised a budget of PKR 52 million for the commission’s operation on Saturday (October 09). The panel will investigate land-related issues as well as society’ procedures and rules.
Moreover, the newly-formed commission will be chaired by a retired judge who will be selected after consulting with the Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court (LHC). As per the cabinet’s announcement, the commission will consist of five members: the chairman, a town planner, an environmental specialist, a legal practitioner, and a member of the appropriate field, all of whom have at least 20 years of experience and practice.It is anticipated that the commission would be led by Justice (R) Azmat Saeed, who will be granted a salary equivalent to that of a Supreme Court Judge.
