Lahore: Observing the environmental impact of local coal use, Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Sardar Usman Buzdar has directed to monitor its impact, a news source reported. The information gathered will be used to overcome the emerging challenges of smog and pollution.
He made these remarks during a meeting with a delegation of the All Pakistan Mines & Minerals Association. Association President Mir Behroz Baloch led the delegation. The CM opined that they should utilise the mineral resources for the betterment of the country. He added that mineral resources invested in public welfare would develop the sector itself, and create jobs too.
CM Buzdar said that the government has taken various measures for enhancing the mineral sector along modern lines. In regards to pollution control, he informed the delegation that the provincial government would examine the All Pakistan Mines & Minerals Association’s alternate model proposed for brick kilns.
The CM revealed that the provincial government has devised a composite policy for leasing out mines, and adopted ease of doing business policy as well. He assured that the mining sector would receive the necessary facilities. He added that a committee including officials from mines, environment, industry, and forest departments would submit recommendations for resolving problems faced by the mining sector.
Listening to issues of mining sector shared by the delegation, Buzdar said that all decisions would be in the light of feasible recommendations forwarded by the committee. He assured that the government would solve their problems on a priority basis.
