Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Sardar Usman Buzdar on Thursday visited the Neela Gumbad General Post Office (GPO) Chowk and reviewed the construction work underway on the Water And Sanitation Agency (WASA) Drain that runs from Haji Camp to the Ravi River, according to news sources.

The chief minister was briefed that eight main drains have been cleaned in Lahore to avoid any problems during the monsoon season. He was told that two power connections and three generators have been arranged in the Lakshmi Chowk to drain excessive rainwater.
Buzdar spoke to media and highlighted that Pakistan’s first underground water storage – that can store up to 1.4 million gallons – has been constructed in Lahore. He said that the capacity of the water storage can be increased by up to 200,000 gallons to be used for irrigation, horticulture and other purposes.

Furthermore, he said that the Government of Punjab is laying an 11-kilometre-long drain to facilitate the city’s residents. In addition, the development work on the drain crossing on Mall Road (near Neela Gumbad) has also been completed.
The chief minister also revealed that WASA has established 31 relief camps in Lahore and water pumping machines are available at 26 locations to assist with early drainage of rainwater in the city. He also inspected the Monsoon Emergency Camp at GPO Chowk and the facilities and available equipment.
