Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Pervaiz Elahi on Sunday (September 11) announced cash compensation for the households damaged by the recent floods in the province, news sources reported.

Elahi announced the policy at a plot distribution ceremony held for the families of deceased journalists. He said the recent floods have devastated a large portion of the country, and the rehabilitation process would cost billions. However, the government would provide cash compensation to all houses damaged by the recent floods. In this regard, a mechanism will be developed for the transparent distribution of funds to needy families. He also praised the journalists for their continuous reporting of the flood and said they form the backbone of public policy by delivering accurate information. Later, CM Pervaiz Elahi distributed possession letters for F-Block among the family members of deceased journalists.

It is worth noting that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has also proposed a similar plan for flood-damaged houses. The government believes the latest flood has cost the country USD 10 billion in infrastructure and farm losses. More than 33 million people have been displaced as a result of this calamity.
