Lahore: The Punjab Cabinet on Wednesday granted approval for the establishment of the Ravi Urban Development Authority (RUDA), a news source reported.

The RUDA will be responsible to perform various tasks and manage several matters regarding the area falling in vicinity of River Ravi. However, the authority’s most crucial responsibility will be to develop a new city on the bank of the said river. Reportedly, the concerned department has already identified 99,000 acres of land for the said project, while section 4 notification to begin the land acquisition process has also been issued.

In addition to developing a new city, the RUDA will also be responsible for managing traffic in the area, work on making the river water usable, and take measures to stop the river from being contaminated. Furthermore, the authority will work on improving the overall ambience and environment of the area by developing and taking care of the green belts.
