Rawalpindi: The provincial government recently assigned the Punjab Intermediate Cities Improvement Project (PICIP) the task to develop the master plan for five major cities, which include Rawalpindi, Sahiwal, Dera Ghazi Khan, Sargodha and Multan — according to a news source published on Wednesday (October 7).
These plans will be developed by keeping in mind the infrastructural needs of the selected cities for the next 20 years. Reportedly, while the Rawalpindi Development Authority had already finalised the consultant for the development of the master plan for the city, this responsibility has now been handed over to the PICIP.
As per the information available, the PICIP is being funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB). Previously, under the PICIP, the bank had approved funds worth USD 200 million in September 2017 for improving the delivery of urban services and infrastructure in Sialkot and Sahiwal.
For the development of the aforementioned master plans, the PICIP will ask the government departments concerned to prepare and share their proposed projects based on the projected figures for population growth over the next 20 years. The PICIP will then share its feedback on the planning and implementation of the planned development schemes based on their recommendations.
