Rawalpindi: The Punjab government has approved PKR 520 million to boost winter tourism in the popular hill stations of Murree and Galyat, as reported on September 30.

As per details, the funds will be utilised to enhance tourist experiences, improve infrastructure, and ensure safety during the winter season, when these areas attract thousands of visitors.
The allocated budget focuses primarily on upgrading road access, improving snow removal operations, and securing landslide-prone areas. Special attention will be given to expanding roads in Galyat to prevent disruptions caused by heavy snowfall. The initiative also includes measures to ensure quicker snow clearance and improve overall road safety.
To tackle the common issue of water shortages during the winter months, the government has allocated resources for water supply projects and storage tanks, benefiting both local residents and tourists. These efforts aim to address long-standing problems in the region, ensuring a smooth and comfortable experience for visitors.

The project will be managed by various authorities. The Murree district administration will oversee snow clearing and road cleaning within Punjab’s boundaries, while the Galyat Development Authority (GDA) will be responsible for road maintenance and drinking water supply in areas under Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). Roads connecting Punjab, Azad Kashmir, and Galyat will also undergo improvements, enhancing connectivity for tourists.
The approved projects are expected to generate employment opportunities and stimulate the local economy. Additionally, the upgraded infrastructure will further position Murree and Galyat as top winter tourist destinations, drawing both domestic and international visitors.
