LAHORE: Punjab Housing and Town Planning Agency (PHTPA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Akhuwat to grant interest-free loans under the Naya Pakistan Housing Project (NPHP), a news source reported. As per the publication, PHTPA Director General (DG) Nadeem Sarwar and Akhuwat Chief Dr Amjad Saqib signed the MoU.

Punjab’s Housing Minister Mian Mehmood-ur-Rasheed and Secretary Housing Nadeem Mehboob were also present during the MoU signing ceremony. Mehmood-ur-Rasheed expressed his pleasure over this agreement for granting interest-free loans. He also said that the owners of three marla plots can avail loans for construction.

Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan announced in January that the government had allocated PKR 25 billion to NPHP and categorised the construction sector as an ‘industry’. Following that, Punjab Housing Minister Mian Mehmood-ur-Rasheed ordered PHATA to complete a plan for developing proposed NPHP projects in Sialkot and Chiniot, Subsequently, PHATA announced on February 13 that they had formulated a plan to develop over one million houses in various cities of the province as part of NPHP.
