Lahore: The Punjab government has introduced an environment-friendly, sustainable energy initiative, under which, as many as 4,000 public schools will be shifted to solar power, according to news sources.

As per the details shared, the government’s ‘Ujala’ initiative is aimed at shifting public schools to sustainable solar power. More than 450 of the 4,000 schools designated for the programmes are government institutions. The provincial government’s energy department has selected two private firms that bid the lowest price to assist in the execution of these programmes. The private firms were short-listed after a transparent bidding process.

Moreover, it was highlighted that the schools will be converted to solar energy in several packages. This initiative will not only help reduce carbon footprint but also reduce costs incurred in electricity bills in the long term.
