Islamabad: President Dr Arif Alvi on Tuesday (August 24) approved Public Property Ordinance 2021 to eradicate encroachment and illegal occupation on state property, according to media reports. The president issued the ordinance under Article 89 of the Constitution.

As per the ordinance, the competent officer will have the right to issue an order to vacate the illegally occupied property. If the property will not be cleared in the given time, the officer will have the power to take necessary action and use force, if need be.
Moreover, the Public Property Ordinance states that the police will also assist the administration to remove grabbers from the government land. According to the ordinance, the total cost that will be incurred to eliminate encroachments will be recovered from the illegal occupants and they will also face fines and imprisonment.
It was also mentioned in the ordinance that President Alvi will create an applet tribunal in consultation with the chief justice. This body will be responsible to handle matters related to the seizure of state property and removal of encroachments.

In another development, President Alvi also issued the Public Private Partnership Authority Ordinance 2021 after Section 14 of the Act was amended.
