Islamabad: The Pakistan Environment Protection Agency (EPA) on Saturday (February 19) announced that a public hearing on the issuance of environmental approval for the 10th Avenue project will be held on Thursday (February 24), according to media reports.

As per the details, the EPA has invited all the stakeholders to attend the public hearing to give their comments. The public hearing will be held at the Jinnah Convention Centre. It was disclosed that 925 mature trees will be transplanted before the inauguration of the project.
Reportedly, the 10th Avenue project was to be implemented by the Capital Development Authority (CDA); however, the authority awarded the contract to National Logistics Cell (NLC). The road project will connect IJ Principle Road to Khayaban-i-Iqbal to facilitate the residents of different sectors. The said project will also prevent traffic congestion in the sectors F-10, G-9, G-10, H-10, I-9, and I-10.
According to the details, drafting and Reviewing Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) reports for all the development projects are mandatory under the Pakistan Environmental Protection Act (PEPA) 1997. The purpose of EIAs is to evaluate the environmental impacts that might arise because of the project.

The EPA informed that the impact on flora will be minimised by the implementation of an appropriate tree plantation plan. The plantation on the side of the road will make it aesthetically pleasing and improve environmental conditions.
