Karachi: The Pakistan Telecommunications Company Limited (PTCL), in an effort to participate in the Clean and Green Pakistan Movement, has decided to convert 700 of its facilities to solar power — according to a news source. For this purpose, it will install state-of-the-art solar power systems in its headquarters, regional offices, and exchanges, which will help conserve energy and support the environmental preservation drive currently underway in the country.

As part of this comprehensive plan, a 180 kilowatt (KW) solar power system has been deployed at PTCL’s headquarters in Islamabad. Chief Technology & Information Officer at PTCL Saad Muzaffar Waraich stated that being a national company, PTCL is very proud of its efforts in protecting the environment and reducing their carbon footprint in the country.

He further added that with solar power systems installed at PTCL facilities, the company has safe energy production alternatives to the currently used fossil fuels, such as oil and gas, which are harmful for the environment. He lauded this initiative as a positive step towards reducing air, water, and land pollution — with the added benefit of reducing dependency on the national power grid.
