Lahore: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has barred all illegal housing societies in Lahore Development Authority’s (LDA) jurisdiction from advertising on social media, news sources reported on April 29. According to reports, the LDA approached the apex media regulating authority in compliance with the Lahore High Court’s verdict on the matter. According to a statement released by PTA, the authority has cautioned all unauthorised housing schemes to refrain from promoting on social media platforms. If such societies are proven to violate these directives, disciplinary action against them will be launched in accordance with the law.

It is worth noting that the LHC, in its March 30th judgement, directed the LDA to take action against all illegal housing schemes that defraud citizens of their hard-earned money. Following the order, the LDA has directed all electronic and print media outlets to double-check the criteria before publishing or broadcasting housing society advertisements. In addition, as per the court orders, the housing societies will have to include the following information in their advertising:
- Area of the housing scheme
- Number of blocks and plot details
- Mortgaged plots
- Number of commercial and residential plots
- NOC diary number
- QR code
