Islamabad: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) on Friday announced another two-month extension in the deadline set for the public and businesses to register their Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) with the authority, according to a news source published on July 31.

Under the latest extension, the users can register their VPNs till September 30. Originally, the VPN using businesses and individuals had until June 30 to get their systems registered, however, the PTA has extended the deadline to July 31 to accommodate more people. The process is aimed to promote legal Information and Communications Technology (ICT) businesses and services in Pakistan.

Moreover, the said extension was made on the recommendations made by the Ministry of Information Technology, Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) and Pakistan Software Houses Association (PASHA).
Meanwhile, the PTA has requested legitimate VPN users to approach their internet provider and initiate the VPN registration procedure. The authority has warned of legal actions against people using unauthorised VPNs to terminating illegal traffic – which costs the national treasury.
