Karachi: Cuts in the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) have resulted in reduced cement prices, a news source reported. The cuts forced cement producers of the northern region to lower the prices by almost PKR 150 per bag.

In the north, a 50-kgs cement bag’s cost ranges from PKR 460 to PKR 500. Meanwhile, the price is PKR 600 per bag in the south. A senior official of a reputed cement company stated that prices have gone down due the decreased volumes as a result of PSDP cuts.
One analyst revealed that industry players have held meetings to discuss and decide the prices. But they have failed to agree, which has resulted in fluctuating prices, he added.

The cement industry of Pakistan is divided into two geographical regions. The northern region includes Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Azad Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and tribal areas. The southern region includes Balochistan and Sindh.
